The Fillmore may not be alive anymore, but there are a lot of great clubs such as Coney Island High, CBGB'S, and Irving Plaza. (which is only 3 blocks from Hotel 17)

The East Village also has a wide variety of inexpensive (but delicious) restaurants, a variety of record stores that still sell collectable records, various bookstores, cool, trendy, clothing stores that sell everything from second-hand vintage to designer clothing. The East Village is perhaps the funkiest part in New York City to visit. The East Village is filled with people that are "socially graced", and they are living out a life that some might say could actually be put into a movie.
